If your dog goes wild for squirrels, flirt poles, or anything that moves fast, you already know they were built to chase. Fast CAT gives them a safe, structured way to do exactly that. At K-11 Canine Care, Fast CAT lure sprints are one of our most popular enrichment add-ons for daycare and boarding dogs.
What does Fast CAT mean?
Fast CAT stands for Coursing Ability Test. It started as a dog sport where a dog sprints a straight course while chasing a lure, usually a plastic bag or flag pulled along a line. The dog's job is simple: run as fast as they can after the lure. There are no obstacles and no tricks to learn, just pure, joyful speed.
Why dogs love lure sprints
It taps into prey drive. Chasing is a natural instinct, and lure sprints let dogs use it safely.
It burns a lot of energy fast. A few short sprints can tire out a dog more than a long walk.
It builds confidence. Dogs who catch the lure at the end get a real sense of accomplishment.
It is easy to learn. Most dogs understand the game on their very first run.
Which dogs are a good fit?
Fast CAT is not just for sighthounds. Labs, shepherds, terriers, doodles, and plenty of mixed breeds love it. The best candidates are healthy, active dogs who enjoy chasing toys. Dogs with joint issues, very young puppies, and dogs who overheat easily may be better suited to calmer enrichment like scent work or nature walks. If you are not sure, ask our team and we will help you decide.
How it works at K-11
Fast CAT can be added to any daycare day or boarding stay. Our staff supervises every run, gives dogs time to warm up and rest between sprints, and stops when a dog has had enough. It pairs well with a calmer activity afterward, like a puzzle feeder or one-on-one cuddle time, so your dog comes home tired and relaxed.
Other high-energy add-ons
If your dog loves Fast CAT, they will probably also enjoy treadmill fitness sessions, agility, and the ball pit. See all of our options in our guide to dog enrichment.
